Shipping & Delivery
How long does shipping take?
We ship every business day via USPS Priority Mail. Orders typically arrive in 1 to 3 business days within the continental US. West Coast orders often arrive next day.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We ship to 29 countries worldwide via DHL Express through Shopify Managed Markets. Duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and included in the order total, so no surprise fees at delivery. International orders typically arrive in 5 to 10 business days.
Where do orders ship from?
Every order ships from our warehouse at 1460 Naud St, Los Angeles, CA. Cut fresh from the roll, packed flat, shipped same or next business day.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your location, weight, and order size. Within the US, we offer USPS Priority Mail and UPS Ground (most orders ship for $5 to $15). Swatches ship USPS First Class for a flat $3. International orders ship via DHL Express with rates calculated by destination country.
Stock & Availability
How will I be notified when a fabric is back in stock?
On any sold-out product page, drop your email (and optional phone for SMS) in the restock notification form. We email or text you the moment that fabric is back. You can also DM us on @kbmfabrics on Instagram with the fabric name and we will let you know directly.
Do you carry a specific fabric I am looking for?
Our catalog is constantly rotating. Search the site first. If you cannot find it, email support@kbmfabrics.com or DM @kbmfabrics on Instagram and we will check our warehouse and mill relationships.
Can you find a specific fabric I am looking for?
Often, yes. We can source a wide range of knits, denim, linen, and specialty fabrics through our mill relationships. Email support@kbmfabrics.com with a photo or description (and target weight/composition if known) and we will let you know if we have it or can get it.
Orders, Cuts & Payment
Do you accept Afterpay, Klarna, or Shop Pay installments?
Yes. We accept Shop Pay Installments at checkout, which lets you split your order into 4 interest-free payments over 6 weeks (subject to Shop Pay eligibility). We also accept Apple Pay, Google Pay, all major credit cards, and PayPal.
What is your minimum cut?
We sell by the yard, with a 1 yard minimum per color on most fabric. Cuts are continuous, so ordering 3 yards means you get one 3-yard piece. Need a sample first? Pick the Swatch option right on the product page ($5, ships USPS First Class for $3).
Can I split 1 yard into smaller pieces of different colors?
No. We have a 1 yard minimum per color. If you want a smaller test piece of a color, select the Swatch option on that fabric's product page instead.
Do you offer in-store pickup at the LA location?
Yes. At checkout, select Pickup as your delivery method to pick up at our shop at 1460 Naud St, Los Angeles, CA 90012. You will get an email when your order is ready, usually within a few hours. Call 310-290-6561 for anything special.
Swatches & Samples
What is a swatch?
A swatch (also called a sample, fabric clipping, or cut piece) is a small square of fabric about 4 by 4 inches that we mail you so you can feel the weight, texture, and true color before committing to yards.
How do I order swatches?
Open the product page for any fabric you want sampled. In the variant selector (where you pick your color or weight) choose the Swatch option, then add to cart. Each swatch is $5 and ships USPS First Class for a flat $3, no matter how many swatches you order.
How much do swatches cost?
$5 per swatch, plus a flat $3 USPS First Class shipping for the whole envelope (one or many swatches, same $3). Wholesale partners get free priority swatches.
Fabric Care
How do I wash KBM fabric?
Most of our cotton knits can be machine washed cold and tumble dried low. Always check the product page for fabric-specific care instructions. When in doubt, wash cold and air dry on first wash.
Will my fabric shrink?
Cotton knits typically shrink 3 to 8 percent on the first wash unless pre-shrunk. If the product page says pre-shrunk, the shrinkage is already accounted for. If it says raw, plan to pre-wash before cutting.
Should I pre-wash before sewing?
Yes, always pre-wash before cutting if you are sewing a fitted garment. This locks in residual shrinkage and prevents your finished piece from changing size after the first home wash.
Fabric Weight & GSM
What does GSM mean?
GSM stands for grams per square meter. It measures fabric weight per unit area. Higher GSM equals heavier, denser fabric. Lower GSM equals lighter, more drapey.
What weight should I pick for my project?
- 120-180 GSM: lightweight tees, summer dresses, lining
- 180-240 GSM: everyday t-shirts, light hoodies
- 240-320 GSM: medium hoodies, joggers, structured tees
- 320-450 GSM: heavyweight hoodies, sweatshirts, fleece pullovers
- 450 GSM+: premium heavyweight, jackets, blankets
Wholesale
Do you offer wholesale pricing?
Yes. Apply for wholesale to get heavily discounted pricing, reserved inventory, dedicated support, custom cuts, and free priority swatches. Wholesale minimums apply: 50 yards per fabric and a $500 first order.
What is the minimum order quantity for wholesale?
Wholesale minimums are 50 yards per fabric and a $500 first order. After that, no fixed minimum on reorders. Not at that volume yet? Order at retail and apply once you are.
Can I get custom cuts or special orders?
Yes, wholesale partners can request specific GSM, dye colors, or yardage we do not normally stock. Talk to us about your project.
Returns & Issues
Can I return fabric?
Uncut, unused fabric in original condition: yes, we accept returns within 14 days of delivery. Email support@kbmfabrics.com first to get approval before sending anything back.
Cut yardage and custom orders: not eligible for return unless defective or incorrect.
Not sure about a fabric? Pick the Swatch option on the product page first ($5 plus $3 USPS First Class shipping).
About KBM
Where are you located?
1460 Naud St, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Open to the public, come visit if you are in LA.
Are you open to the public? What are your hours?
Yes, our LA shop is open to the public. Walk in, browse, feel the fabric, take it home same day. Hours: Sunday through Friday, 9:30am to 5pm Pacific. Closed Saturday. Call 310-290-6561 ahead if you are coming from far, especially for specific bolts.
Where do you source your fabric from?
A mix. Our cotton knits are spun in-house in Vernon, California, and we work with US mills wherever possible. For specialty fabrics like Japanese selvedge denim, we source directly from Japan. Our goal: ship the highest quality fabric we can find, prefer US-made when the quality is there, and import what we cannot source domestically.
How long have you been around?
Family business, cutting and selling fabric in LA since 1984.
Are you sustainable?
We source as much as possible from US mills and stock natural fibers (cotton, modal, tencel, bamboo, linen) over synthetics. Not perfect, but we keep getting closer.
